"Our Technology Gets Lost in the Woodwork"
The Difference - What Makes a True North Log Homes Different
WHAT MAKES AN EXTRAORDINARY HOME
The finest homes are made of three distinct elements: informed and inspired design, highest quality craftsmanship and highest quality materials. Not one of those elements can be lacking in the creation of a quality home. If any of these three elements are lacking, the home cannot be the extraordinary home that today’s knowledgeable homeowners are seeking.
TRUE NORTH LOG HOME DESIGN
Every True North is custom designed with the inspired homeowner working closely and sharing their vision with the highly experienced, informed Architectural Designers at True North. Working closely together, the clients and designers create the home that has been in the clients’ minds. Once the clients have seen their design set on paper and are satisfied, the design is sent to Rob Wrightman, the owner of True North Log Homes, for his final review and approval.
TRUE NORTH MANUFACTURING
Rob then forwards the design to the True North craftsmen. The logs the True North craftsmen mill are premium grade logs selected from managed forests. They are in the range of 100 years old, high grade winter-cut Eastern White Pine or Western Red Cedar logs. These furniture grade logs are milled to an accuracy of 1/5000 of an inch.
True North has been a staunch supporter of the environment and the concept of sustainable forest, since the company’s origin in the 1970’s. It is not surprising when FSC [Forest Stewardship Council] Certification was created in the USA that the True North logs qualified for this high standard. Not only do True North logs come from certified “sustainable forest”, they are also furniture grade logs, not just log grade.
The finish of your home begins with the craftsmen who cut the logs to a full size measure, which means that a 12” X 8” log is just that and not a nominal smaller size. More wood equals more value and thicker logs are more energy efficient.
True North then immediately flood coats the logs with a VU primer. Our UV Primer Coat is a major benefit, providing protection for your logs from the elements during shipping, the construction process and extending the time frame for final onsite stain application. The UV primer exceeds the very low VOC content standards set by the State of California. True North is the only company to flood coat protect its logs at the factory. The advantage of this process is the deep penetration into the log while the logs are the cleanest they will ever be, providing dimensional stabilization, which equalizes the evaporation of moisture from the cellular structure of the log reducing any dramatic movement during the natural drying process. This deep penetration is also excellent protection against wood destroying fungi, insect infestation and weathering.
TECHNOLOGY & PATENTS
| Within in the walls of every True North Log Home are many innovations that set us apart. Years of diligent research have resulted in an exclusive patented joinery system, unmatched in the industry. Our in-house design team and computer aided manufacturing process keep True North Log Homes affordable. |
|
Our technology capitalizes on the fact that all logs will shrink and settle over time. True North uses the natural log shrinkage that occurs to its advantage ultimately making the log assemblies tighter. The introduction of strategically placed patented key locks, butt splines, and post locks work with nature to actually tighten the structure over time. |

The strength of any building is in the corners. That’s why our patented Key lock Air Seal Corner® has revolutionized the log home industry. The absence of nails, screws or lag bolts in the joinery of a True North Log Home is the key advantage of our product. All gaskets and caulking are internal, so chinking or exterior caulking will never be needed. Our patented Post lock Corner system is a first in log home construction expanding log home design options to include any angle you can imagine. |

|
Our patented Tongue & Groove System allows for U.V. resistant joinery, gaskets and caulking to be integrated for airtight construction. Thru-bolts are inserted every two feet from each opening and every four feet along a solid wall, and the log walls are torqued down and spring loaded with a 1000-pound spring, compressing the sealants to form a watertight triple seal. |

TRUE NORTH FINISH
After the installation of your new log home the True North Water Borne Natural Oil Finish is applied. This finish protection is unique in that it does not inhibit the breathing of the log, a trait naturally inherent to wood and the vital performance and health you can expect from your log home.
True North Water Borne Natural Oil Finish provides excellent UV protection and will not peel or blister.
True North’s Water Borne Natural Oil Finish is a hybrid technology providing the penetrating advantages of traditional solvent based products with the environmental benefits of water based technology which results in years of exceptional protection with ease of maintenance.
